Motorola 68060 CPU A benchmark program identifies the CPU as 68040. Cause: Most system benchmark programs just look into execbase to identify the CPU type. Since there is no bit reserved for the 68060 and the operating system does not check for this CPU, the corresponding bits for CPU type are set to 68040, the highest level CPU the OS knows about. Programs, that test for the CPU may in addition, like the OS, not know about the existence of the 68060 CPU and therefor not know, how to test for that CPU type. Solution: To see, wether the MC68060 CPU is correctly initialized, run the tool CPU060. This tool reports all the possible CPU settings of the MC68060 CPU and will print out an error message, if the CPU can not be recognized.
