Motorola 68060 CPU

Crash during startup with 68060 board installed

Type of Failure:

The system crashes during startup before any system activity is recognized. The crash can be prevented by removing a particular expansion board.

Cause:

Some older expansion boards use driver ROMs, which contain commands that are not supported by the Motorola 68060 CPU, e.g. the MOVEP command. We added a MOVEP emulation to the firmware of our newer boards, but this emulation decreases the system performance. In addition there are some other commands that are not emulated by now. Such boards can't be used correctly until the manufacturer supplies an updated driver ROM.

Solution:

Ask the manufacturer of the expansion board for a newer driver release that is 68060 clean. If a driver update is not available, you need to remove the expansion board.
